Back to Science!

Three snippets mind related science, straight from Warren Ellis:

Scientists just love to play with brains. Placing grids of electrodes on them and trying to decipher the words people say by the electrical patterns their brains display? Why not. It even works (sort of).

Bad news for all city dwellers: You are more likely to go crazy, than people living in the country.
The clearest geographic pattern within this distribution of rates is that urban areas have a higher incidence of schizophrenia than rural areas.

Another interesting discovery from the brink of sanity: A study in late stage cancer patients indicates that psilocybin, one of the more popular hallucinogens for recreational use, can provide some relief from anxiety. As Cannabis on prescription is becoming a reality in some places, magic mushrooms from your doctor may be the next step.
